Mojave Desert Science SymposiumNov 16 - Nov 19, 2004 at University of Redlands, CA
You, your colleagues and students are invited to the third Mojave Desert Science Symposium, which follows past conferences of this series by exploring the interfaces between science and resource management. Throughout this symposium, we emphasize where the state-of-the-art is in our knowledge of the Mojave Desert, its ecosystem processes, and what the implications of new and emerging science are to resource management.
Four theme sessions (threats, ecosystem function, rehabilitation, scales and sustainability) will follow symposium keynote presentations on the first morning. Each theme will be presented as a series of four invited plenary talks, followed by a related poster session of volunteered presentations. The meeting will conclude with a panel discussion and be followed by an optional one-day field trip on Friday, November 19. Visit http://www.dmg.gov/mdss for registration information, hotel information, and more.
The meeting will be hosted by University of Redlands, located in the eastern greater Los Angeles area. The nearest airport is Ontario, California. Sponsors include the U.S. Geological Survey, University of California Sweeny Granite Mountains Desert Research Center, Desert Research Institute, National Park Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Edwards Air Force Base, with cooperation and assistance from Western National Parks Association and the California Desert Managers Group.
